For the Saturday night keynote of the CMC we will be featuring a presentation and discussion lead by Walidah Imarisha and adrienne marie brown, co-authors of the amazing new social justice science fiction anthology Octavia’s Brood. The new book is described on their website as such.
“The anthology consists of radical science fiction/speculative fiction/fantasy/horror/magical realism short stories written by activist-writers who are actively involved in building movements for social change. They use their experience doing community work as the muse for their fiction. The collection will also include essays about the radical potential of science fiction by people like award-winning science fiction writer Tananarive Due and award-winning journalist and political prisoner Mumia Abu-Jamal.”
The keynote will be held Saturday evening at the Portland State Smith Memorial Union, the exact time and room number to be determined.
Walidah and adrienne will also be conducting a sci-fi writing workshop on Sunday as part of the conference. We’re glad to have them on board for the CMC and sharing the awesome work they are doing.
